Waves stitch is a fun variation on a Bargello pattern, meant to mimic waves in the water.

In this stitch, stitches span over three canvas threads vertically. Between rows, we have chosen to leave one canvas thread open, however, if you prefer a full coverage look, you can remove that open thread and have rows abut each other.
Work this stitch in horizontal rows.

Because this is a stitch made up of vertical straight stitches, for a fuller coverage look you will want a thicker thread like Pepper Pot Silk on 18 Count Canvas or Silk and Ivory on 13 Count Canvas.

Have fun and try this stitch on summer and beach canvases. You'll be so glad you did!
